Transforming Malaysian Paddy Fields into the Global Carbon Market

EcoCarbon develops high-integrity nature-based carbon projects for Malaysian paddy ecosystems, quantified under Verra VM0042 and the VMD0053 biogeochemical module.

What we do

From project design to verified carbon units — the work behind a credible carbon project.

  • 01

    Develop

Develop and register Verra VCS paddy/rice carbon projects.

  • 02

    Measure

Coordinate MRV with technology partner HiTerra and ISO 17025–accredited laboratory Petrolab.

  • 03

    Issue

Issue and broker verified carbon units (VCUs) for corporate buyers once the project reaches issuance.

Methodology

Methodology-grade by design — the science is the moat.

Carbon quantification follows Verra VM0042 (Improved Agricultural Land Management) with the VMD0053 biogeochemical quantification module, using the DayCent model.

  • Verra VM0042 — Improved Agricultural Land Management.
  • VMD0053 — biogeochemical quantification module (DayCent model).
  • Low-emission rice variety.
  • EcoCarbon Activator — proprietary soil amendment.

Our carbon project

Map of Peninsular Malaysia with the project location marked in Selangor.
Project location: Selangor, west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

EcoCarbon develops nature-based agricultural carbon projects in Malaysian paddy systems. We combine a low-emission rice variety with the EcoCarbon Activator soil amendment as core climate-smart interventions — working alongside landowners and operating partners, and quantifying outcomes under Verra VM0042 with the VMD0053 biogeochemical module (DayCent).

The approach is designed to support both environmental and agricultural performance: reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, enhancing soil carbon, and improving long-term soil health while maintaining yields for farmers. The project is targeting Verra VCS registration in Q4 2026.

FAQ

Straight answers — general carbon questions, and what participation means for farmers.

General

What are carbon credits?
A carbon credit is a tradable certificate representing the reduction or removal of one tonne of carbon dioxide — or the equivalent amount of another greenhouse gas — from the atmosphere.
How does soil store carbon?
Plants capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and convert it into stable organic matter that is retained in the soil over time.
What is the difference between credit buyers, project partners, and growers/producers?
Credit buyers are organisations that purchase carbon credits to offset their emissions or for carbon trading. Project partners are organisations — farming organisations, agri-service companies, agribusinesses, government agencies and similar — that work with us to advise, manage and execute the project. Growers/producers are the farmers and landowners in our carbon programme who adopt improved, sustainable agricultural practices.

Farmers

What are the benefits of joining the carbon project?
Potential benefits include improved profitability through enhanced crop yields, reduced input requirements and better farm efficiency. Participating farmers also receive access to the HiTerra farm-management application to support data-driven practices and decision-making, while contributing to greenhouse-gas mitigation through sustainable farming.
Is there a fee to participate in the EcoCarbon carbon-farming programme?
No. There is no participation fee or any other charge to take part — all project costs are borne by the project proponent.
I am a potential participating farmer — how do I access project information?
Project information is publicly available on this website. For further enquiries, email admin@myecocarbon.com or WhatsApp +60 12-213 2155; our registered office address is in the Contact section and footer below.
How can I participate in the carbon project?
Interested participants can get in touch using the contact details on this site (email or WhatsApp).
How large does my farm need to be to participate?
Farms of all sizes are welcome to participate.
Is my information secure?
Yes. Personal data is handled in accordance with Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709), as amended by the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2024. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Does participating involve selling part of my land?
No. Participation does not involve selling or transferring any part of your land — you retain ownership and adopt improved agricultural practices. Specific terms are set out in the participation agreement.
Can I enrol if I am leasing someone else’s land?
This is assessed case-by-case, depending on your lease agreement and applicable law. Please contact us to discuss.
What if I do not have proof of land ownership?
This is assessed case-by-case. Please contact us for assistance.
I’m a rancher — can I participate?
Not at this time. Ranching is not yet covered by our carbon project.
I have a timber plantation — can I participate?
Not at this time. Timber plantations are not yet covered by our carbon project.
